Big B hosts the music launch event of Mani Ratnam's 'Guru'

Mumbai, November 6th 2006

By Kreative Access

Mani Ratnam’s ‘Guru’ is one of the biggest and the most awaited movie of 2006, and the creative filmmaker didn’t leave any stone unturned to launch the music of his forthcoming movie in style at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Mumbai. The host of the evening was none other than Big B himself, who delivered an impressive and a well articulated introduction to ‘Guru’. Big B then, went on to invite Abhishek on the dais to share his viewpoint on the movie. “I play the role of an average Indian villager, who rises to become one of the most successful, powerful and controversial entrepreneurs of the country”, shared Abhishek. Abhishek and Mani are joining hands foo the second time, the first time was for ‘Yuva’, which didn’t do too well at the box-office, but the movie will always be regarded as first powerful footprint of Abhishek in Bollywood as he astounded the audiences with his matured performance. After sharing his experiences during the making of ‘Guru’, stood with his proud dad to watch the first look at the trailer of ‘Guru’, which we think is simply superb.

Abhishek made a disappearing act from the stage as the audiences were distracted with the promo. After the trailer, Big B announced, “Now joining me next are the stars of the movie Ash and Maddy”. Aishwarya Rai looked beautiful in a white saree, and it was nice to see an actress wear gold jewelry for a change. Ash addressed the crowd by saying, “Mani Ratnam is literally my Guru as I did my first movie ‘Iruvar’ with him and he has always been a great teacher as he keeps telling me ‘be natural, keep it simple’”. Maddy, who has worked with Mani Ratnam on a couple of projects in South India, is happy that he was considered for such a pivotal role in ‘Guru’. Big B then invited his next guests, the world renowned music composer AR Rehman and the legendary lyricist Gulzar.

Gulzar Sahab was in his trademark white kurta-pyjama and recited beautiful lines from the poem that he wrote for ‘Guru’, which was followed by AR Rehman reciting the song that he has composed based on the poem. Big B asked Gulzar Sahaab on his inspiration behind writing such a beautiful verse for ‘Guru’, to which Gulzar replied, “I have learned my poetry writing style from Mr. Harivansh Rai Bachchan and that sums it all”. AR Rehman’s performance with his chorus was awesome. Finally, the man behind all the action Mani Ratnam shared on how he had came up with the script of the movie, which was just in a brief period of four months. Mani further added, “ I am inspired by some great visionaries of India”.

Mallika Sherawat, who has performed an item number in the movie, was missing and so was Vidya Balan, who plays Maddy’s wife in the movie. It is rumored that two are not happy with the way Mani Ratnam has given Ash all the limelight as Ash is the only actress portrayed in the promos, which sure seems like a deliberate decision.

Mani Ratnam’s protégée Preity Zinta springed in a surprise visit and had a nice time with buddy Abhishek and his gal. Abhishek took control of the entire party as he was busy attending to the media and playing the perfect self-proclaimed host as he personally requested media not to leave without having dinner. Abhishek also tactfully dodged all questions about him and Ash tying a knot in early 2007. Well, when it comes to diplomacy the AB junior for sure is a ‘Guru’.
